Really, I shouldn't be writing this now - since I have a Marketing Research to do as part of the project that I have to hand in TOMORROW. But, the level of excitement from the product I just created, it's just too hard NOT to.

The final product for this one is a lookbook, with my illustrations. The concept started with the word: plants. Then I took the ambiguity of the word which could mean the botanics, AND power plants - especially nuclear plants. This is the perfect contrast, something that is very natural and beautiful against something controversial, mad-made, and destructive. Taking the idea from Pramoedya Ananta Toer's quote, I specifically looked into flowerbuds - as the 'beginning of growth'; then completely destroy it with the effects of nuclear radiation that includes contamination, and mutation. Hence, I give you:

Mind you that this is just the end product. I will also be graded based on the process I show in my sketchbook - which I think is not the best. So, I'm not expecting a good one for this one.

This is a collection for the recent "Art&Fashion" project which I based on Naive Art, or Art Brut. Mostly focusing on youth prison art and taking the shapes from multiple perspective paintings and prison landscapes.

To support the theme, I tried to apply the whole concept of the art movement for the final illustrations.

I had a great combination last summer. One of the best, I should say. The 4F: Family, Friends, Food, and Fashion :)

I managed to get an internship at Carmanita studio, and learned some of the best things I've learnt so far. It was a great feeling to be part of the fashion industry in Indonesia, even if just for 5 weeks. But still, being an intern at a fashion workshop which mostly focusing on fabrics made me appreciate it even more. I definitely learnt a lot about fabric finishings; from attaching tiny beads onto silk scarves, different tie-dye preparations, draping, and the highlight would be batik.

"Batik is not the motif, it's the technique"

That is a quote from Carmanita herself to me, and I completely agree. I saw it as a reminder for everyone about what batik really is. Since it has been a trend in Indonesia for a few years now but it's starting to lose its value - because the mass produced "batiks" are actually (poorly made) digital prints, but people still refer them as batik which disappoints me a lot.

It is such a modest atmosphere working in the studio. A simple house in a small neighbourhood in the south of Jakarta, and unfortunately in an area that gets flooded a lot (I've heard some really sad stories about it :( ) - I find it very very inspiring, because they come up with a great range of culturally rich collections that sells millions of Rupiah (hundreds of $). Being part of the working environment is like being a part of a little family full of talented and dedicated, and inspiring people, some of them have worked there for 20 years or so, and they still get along well with the younger "newcomers".

I really hope for the best for Carmanita team.

An application of what Ibu Carmanita said about batik (that it is the technique, not the motif), I created an Escher-inspired print using the traditional batik pipe (canting) on one half of the fabric, and rough stripes using flat-wide brush. Their method of free-draping have also inspired me for creating this top.

Referring to the previous post, I'd like to emphasize that lightning does strike twice.

This happened with the latest Maison Martin Margiela's collection with my recent project.

The Shirt and Trousers project required us to choose one brand (from the given list) and then creates our designs based on the brands' design philosophy - basically we are learning how to design for a company with existing design ethos and characters. So, surprise...surprise, I chose Martin Margiela's Line 1 (the main line for their women's wear).

Working around the concept of human brain's duality - logic and deception I overcame a lot of stress and amazingly managed all-nighters. As the result, I can't say anything else but the truth that I am very proud to present you these:

Double function shirt dress that could be unzipped open and transformed into a shirt

Tailored trousers with hidden side-seams

I don't know whether I should be sad, or proud; but one thing for sure, I was just shocked with the uncanny timing for MMM's Autumn/Winter 2011 collection to come out showing

THE SAME CONCEPT OF CLOTHES TRANSFORMATION!!!

That morning, a few days before this project was due, there they were: on my Mac screen...style.com...38 outfits.

The review even said this:

"The MMM dresses seemed to be peeling off their models like old wallpaper. A red one early on was unzipped up the side to reveal a patent skirt a shade darker. "

"Maybe the Margiela team was admonishing us all to slow down or deal with the repercussions. Then again, sometimes a dress is just a dress, even if it is coming apart at the seams."

Uh, hello? Margiela? Yes, I'd like to work with you after I graduate. Yes... in Paris? Great. Brilliant. See you soon.

Mysteries of the Mind

Maison Martin Margiela's collections are so conceptual. In an interview, the mysterious Martin Margiela himself was described as someone who "counted the brain as part of the human figure". As the brief requires us to design based on the identity and fashion philosophy of our chosen designer/brand, I looked deeper into the quote....and I was hooked. Obsessed.

I chose the human brain as my main theme. I've already started researching into different theories and scientific explanations of how the brain works - specifically in understanding things. I was mainly drawn to this quote by Nietzsche:

"But how could we possibly explain anything? We operate only with things that do not exist: lines, planes, bodies, atoms, divisible time spans, divisible spaces. How should explanation be at all possible when we first turn everything into an image, our image!"

It's just so interesting how our minds are inevitably biased. Whenever you hear a description of some sort, the image that appears in your mind and the image thought by the person next to you can never be the same.

This, led me to the idea of mind trick. Remember those brain teaser images that became so popular a few years ago? You would usually get those in chain mails forwarded by your parents/aunts/uncles because ~~they had nothing to do~~ they think they're so annoyingly fun. Remember?

You must know this one then, just as an example:

Then, this image brought me to Surrealism Art (like those by Mr. Dali & M.C. ~~Hammer~~ Escher).

To begin the design process, I want to highlight the dual personality of the brain; it's so mighty that it makes you function, makes you live, think rationally, and what not. However, it can also be spontaneous, lose it's own control even just for a split second like being deceived by images such as this one.

Well, this is just the beginning, I have 2-3 weeks to turn this idea into 25 shirt designs and 25 trousers designs. Then I'd have to choose 1 from each and actually make them :) YAY TAILORING!

By the way, I'd like to thank these people for giving me suggestions. I appreciate them a lot, but I had this idea going on in my head already. So... so looooong suckerssss! :*

“To figure out what you are is to figure out what you are not” is collection designed for Autumn/Winter season based on the concept of ‘binary opposition’ – which in simplified terms means the relation of a pair of distinct linguistic items. The collection features designs inspired by the movie American Gigolo and Tibetan culture that created marriages between contrasting silhouettes, colours, and textures in each of its design.

As you may or may not know, this month is the end of my first year as a Fashion student. Happy? No doubt. Satisfied? Ehh... with this one, I can't really decide yet. Since the beginning of the course, I have been questioning the methods of teaching that I've been offered. This year (Year 0) was meant to develop ourselves with the basics in fashion design, and I understand that we were supposed to conduct our learning independently. But, does being independent mean being let go completely? I guess my main concern was, were we asked to be independent, or were we neglected? To be honest I really don't want to say anything, in order to avoid being too judgmental.

Let's just get down to the facts. Throughout this year, we have been given project after project after project. And it's almost always like this; we were gathered at the beginning of the project to be given the project brief, and discuss it together. Then, we're off to do our own things. Starting from research, analysis, and finally compiling the whole thing in the sketchbook. Yes, we did have one-on-one tutorials with the tutor once a week to show our progress and found out where we had to improve. And at the end, we had the presentation - followed by written feedback and the marks sometime after.

There was one project that was a bit different; where we had to actually make clothes (remember?). And for that project - maybe because it was practical - we did get step-by-step instructions and constant assistance from the tutor. Maybe, this was what I expected. I expected to receive this kind of teaching for everything, e.g. sketchbook, because as I recall, for the first portfolio project, I didn't even have a sketchbook - where we compile our research and ideas, and the development until we came up with the final result - because I didn't know that it's crucial for such projects (bear in mind that some of the first projects weren't "design projects"). Maybe, because I had no idea about this year when I started, I expected that they would actually teach us on how to make a good sketchbook. Instead, I learned it by myself, partly by watching my classmates' presentations.

Are you getting what I'm trying to say here? Are you still awake?

Well I guess to sum up everything, I would say that I have no idea if I have done my learning correctly this year. If this is what being independent is all about then I have to embrace it, make the most of it, like it or not. Because I felt that all I've done this year was trying to be a good student; trying to make the teachers proud by fulfilling all requirements and whatnot. But I guess it's a bit different in my department. What's more important is to be a good designer, express my ideas and thoughts however I wish, without limiting myself to any "academic criteria" - well, NOT entirely.

I admit that I have learned A LOT this year. Let's see what will happen next year.

Restraining The Free

With this holiday spirit, I would like to apologize for abandoning this blog. I know it has been too long since I "promised" to write about the last project I did for completing my first year in Uni.

The last project of the year consisted of two things, an A3 portfolio of our own works throughout the year that we have selected and compiled "professionally", and a design project that allowed us to decide our own area of interest.

Now, I don't want to bore you with details of what I had to do. I'll try to explain it as brief as possible:

I titled my project "Restraining the Free". Why? Because I did a study that involved a comparison between corsetry - which obviously is a restraining garment that is controversial especially in the old days - and drapery - which I considered the exact opposite of corsets. With thorough research and extensive reference, I wanted to prove the superficiality of corsets. Using this title, I did my research of the two things from different aspects; history, social, culture, etc. As the outcome, we had to create designs based on our research and experimentation.

At first I thought I would reject the whole idea of corsetry, but my research led me to accepting the concept; and that would contradict my initial goal. This was when I started to feel uncertain. I had a talk with my tutor before I went on with the research, I told him "I don't know where I should direct my research; I want to reject the concept of corsets but my research so far have pulled me in to accepting the idea", and he said "Just go on with your research for now, don't think about the final outcome, just take in everything that comes to you"... and so I did. I decided to combine corsetry and drapery, because I've found that both of them reflects beauty in their own unique ways (this was where the research went long).

Throughout the process, I was inspired by so many things! Sea creatures, Kebaya, architecture, and paintings were a few of them. This long process finally brought me to designs that incorporated corsets AND drapery, showing its gift of freedom to the human body as well as the beauty of control that the corsets conveyed through the 'perfect' bodily structure.

And, finally, the collection line up. I'm not very happy with them, though. Most of them didn't seem really connected to the researches I have done (images above). But at least I've realised that and learnt something.

I've written a post with a same title on my group blog, Bus Tingkat Merah. But that's when we were still looking for a place for next year. Now, we have found one - and it's officially ours!

Lots of story behind this, we found a place that we like, we lost it, we went to see another house, we hated it...and so on

So, here are some pictures!

This is going to be my room - without the TV of course, and without the mess - a guy is living there at the moment.

These are the kitchen, and living room. Really nice compared to one of the house that we saw... let's just say, with that house you can't really walk barefoot - not because the floor is dirty but you will definitely get splinters because the wooden floor was kind of breaking off.

And, this house has a backyard as well :)

In September, I will be moving in with 3 of my friends: Ana, Maddie, and Meagan; and we are hoping that we can live here until we finish our degree.

I'm very proud to say that I have found the perfect magazine!

As you can see from the picture it's called "Above Magazine: For the Earth"

Personally I think it's a combination between Dazed&Confused and National Geographic. What a unique combination, huh?

Basically this beautiful magazine shows the different approaches to protect the environment - or at least to be aware of what is happening at the moment. It has sections on culture, travel, fashion, architecture, art, beauty, food, music, living ... and the list goes on.

I'm so glad that I can finally get it over and done with. After two months working on the same project, it got really boring. But to think of it, with a shorter period of time, we wouldn't be able to finish what we had to finish... so, I guess things happen for a reason.

These are the final things that I have to submit:

1. Developmental Sketchbook

2. Technical File (showing samples of experimentation with fabric treatments AND images from magazine showing how each technique can be applied on garments AND costing sheet for each garment)

3. Portfolio (moodboard, illustration, final product, photoshoot, and spec drawings)

4. Customer Profile report and Market Research report

+ PowerPoint Presentation on the process of making the garment - which going to be held tomorrow

About a month ago we were given new briefs to work on, and I found this one really interesting because it involves recreating secondhand garments which was randomly picked out for us. A got a pair of trousers, a bath robe, and a pillow case

...lucky, huh?

With using all these rags, we have to come up with our own interpretation of HAPPINESS; so I went for festivals, particularly tribal festivals and finally correlating it with nature.

So, after about 2 weeks of hard work and tired eyes after all hand-stitching and top-stitching, making new seams, unpicking the existing stitching, and all sorts to create a garment out of those abandoned fabrics... I succeeded to create this look.

Yes, the dress was originally the pair of trousers.
Yes, the capelet was made from petals that I made from the bathrobe and the pillowcases.

I really got tired of looking at my dress for 2 full weeks and decided that I hated it. But, at the end, it really looked like how I wanted it to look :)

Today was the 'judgement day'. People from Ideal Home Exhibition in London came to choose some of our garments and bring them along to be shown on their catwalk show. My dress didn't get to be one of them... BUT our first "client" - Mind Charity Shop who is opening a new store down in Brighton came to me and said that they would use my dress - and some others - to be exhibited during the launching of their new store, AND they are doing a photo shoot for it as well. YAY

Unfortunately this project is not entirely finished yet. I'd still have to work on the sketchbook, presentation, costumer profile, research report (of other charity shops), and technical file with all samples that I did before I started working on the dress. Wish me luck!

The greatest feeling I had when strolling around Camden Passage, Islington, London; where all the 'hidden jewels' of vintage fashion reside. I was amazed by all of the different varieties of vintage garments, accessories, collectibles; particularly this one...

If they really are 90 years old, then the owner of the shop should really get an award :D The sequin robe looks beautifully ancient. I didn't even bother to ask how much it worth; or at least, whether they are actually selling it.

I definitely will return to this vintage heaven another day...

... with some cash ready, of course :)

Ok, I admit that this is just confusing!

This week, I started reading 2 books;

The Culture of Fashion by Christopher Breward - which is actually part of the "Essential Reading" list that I got as a part of my new module, and...

Dematerializing: Taming the Power of Possessions by Jane Hammerslough - which I just got from my Dad (I asked him to bring it along when we met up in Holland).

Just to be clear, even before I held these books in my hands, I knew that I am interested in the subjects given by both books. BUT, what I didn't realise until now is that each book contradicts the other. I realised that I am now living in a materialistic world, and I wont deny it that I can be very materialistic at times :p Thus, came my interest in reading a book to 'tame the power of possessions'; starting from my own. Before finished with the first book, I moved on to the second book - which the list I've just received recently. Laid out chronologically, this book brings the readers through the history of fashion throughout the centuries - including the external factors like the socio-cultural aspects. I started with the last chapter in the book, about the late-twentieth century; the present day. This chapter talks about how quickly the concept of fashion changes, and how the so-called contemporary fashion doesn't necessarily mean 'meeting the costumers' demands and needs'; even some are simply forms of aesthetics.

Reading these two books at around the same time, made me think; am I betraying my own values here? Not only as an observant, I am actually involved in the concept of "materialism". I am studying FASHION for God's sake! Even these 3 magazines are becoming my most dominant periodical resource!
Yeah, so... I'm a little lost here...

Remember my entry entitled Papyrus? Well that was the beginning of my Papery project, and at 2 am this morning, I finally finished my developmental sketchbook for it and handed everything in 7 hours later.

This is what we ended up with; a whole outfit made out of paper...only paper

The whole outfit was inspired by Beatrix Potter's character; Peter Rabbit.
I worked on it with my talented friend, Ms. Meagan Wellman for weeks!
Lots of frustrations surfaced on the process, but, we're happy with the result :D

I'd like to thank my Mom for sending me magazines from Jakarta; because of course the content would be different to magazines in the UK.

"...one of them covers this year's Jakarta Fashion Week..."

That was mainly the reason why she sent them to me :)

As I was flicking through 'Femina, Edisi Tahunan 2010', I found a page that has images from a runway show. I realised that the models are wearing batik; and I thought that they must be from Jakarta Fashion Week. However, it seems that the photos are different from the images I saw from the Fashion Week the year before; starting from the make up on the models, the catwalk, even the style of photography. So I looked more closely and saw the designers' names; and it turned out that one of them is Dries Van Noten!

This Belgian designer included - not only tints of batik - but the whole fabric as the actual garments.

But one question came to my mind,

If anything, I don't see that his designs are more special than any Indonesian designers who have been recycling batik as ready-to-wear fashion for years now; then how come they don't get that much recognition?

After all of the stress and frustration I went through I think I deserve this

On one of the hours of my career as a couch potato, I talked to my auntie back home through Skype (well, she was actually in Singapore at the moment). We talked about lots of stuff, and she is one of these people who really value inspiration, motivation and everything that could make your life feels better. So she was telling me a story about her friend who have kept a journal for 10 years and now have shelves of journals full of positive things in his life. She said that her friend would write 3 positive things that happened each day and put it in the journal; and I think I should really start doing this. Well, I might not remember to write them every single day but I will try; because we thought that these little good things that happened are the best to brighten up your day a little bit. Especially for the future when you just need a little bit of support, you can just go through the lists and you might feel better :)

So, should I write them here, in the blog, or have an actual journal specifically for that?
I think I'll get a journal so I can keep it away from the public :p And this blog was supposed to be about fashion anyway...

I'll post more artworks soon, promise :D

Okay so, on the 23rd November 2009 - which was Monday - Fashion year 0 students had to gather first at 9.45 am to drop off all of our Portfolios and Sketchbooks containing EVERYTHING that we have done since we started.

Just a short recap on the process, this series of projects - 11 projects to be exact - started in September 21st. Each week from that day, we were given at least one new project to work on. Plenty, I know. So, procrastination have been my worst enemy yet, my closest friend in the process of creating this first impression. Ah! First impression, it's the worst situation ever when you're trying to do everything right, but sometimes ended up over-thinking things; and created stress. Mental stress.

That Monday when we had to hand everything in was supposed to be the best day of my life, just because the burden is finally gone - at least for now. But wait... that's right! I also had a presentation to do, a group presentation. How was it, you asked?

D.I.S.A.S.T.E.R

I don't know if we can call this miscommunication, or lack of group chemistry, or something else; but, this was the worst presentation that I have ever done. We were supposed to analyse a quote from one designer, and after that we had to make a moodboard and a set of designs based on that quote, some sort of a visual analysis. And the moodboard and the designs were something that we - as a group - were really proud of. Well, I was really proud of them. But again, as I said before I don't know what to call this...let's just say, due to certain circumstances these designs and moodboard were not shown during the presentation - 'accidentally'. It all went so fast I couldn't even figure out the reason for it.

As you read this, you may think that I was just being stupid to complain about such a thing; it's because I didn't write the whole story to avoid any specifications - you may not know me, but I constantly feel bad about the little things that I do/didn't do. So, yeah, let's just say that it didn't turn out to be the best day of my life. Instead of feeling relieved, I got nervous... really nervous.

In order to make myself feel a bit better, I have been trying to find the silver lining from that day

Definitely my least favourite designer of all times, but we had to do an analysis of one of her infamous quotes - in a visual approach. So, this is what I did to support the analysis that I will make in my sketchbook a bit later.

This week has been an introduction to visualisation; which obviously covers observational drawing and fashion illustration. The first day, we had to draw skeletons ALL DAY - with experimentation, of course. Each drawing was done in 1 to 5 minutes; some using the normal hand (right) and some used the wrong hand (left - which gave me quite a surprise when I saw the result); we used white and coloured paper; and a variety of media (pencils, charcoal, drawing pen, coloured pencils, etc)

Hi there,

It's kinda late now, sekitar jam 2 pagi; dan gak tau kenapa, gue sama sekali gak ngantuk. I have no particular intention by posting this entry, just want to show you the workspace that I'll be working at for this one year :) (well, plus the library, but I'd rather work on my sketchbook alone like any other introverted people :p)

It's small, I know... It wouldn't fit an A3 sketchbook with all the knick-knacks that I'll be using. But, I'd have to adjust myself to it (the table in the kitchen is actually A LOT bigger but, yeah...it's a KITCHEN)

Akhirnya, nama "ManekinTua" ada artinya juga.
What is it, you may ask?
Let me get you up to speed.

Four months ago, I finally graduated with an IB Diploma; with a total score of 35 out of 45 (not so great when you put it this way, but all I know is when I first saw this the world just got better :D)

After that defining moment, I spent the 3 months of unemployment by producing this semi-documentary year book video with a friend of mine; lots of fun.... and stress.

Cut-to: 09/09/09
This was the day when I was overwhelmed by different sorts of emotions - and they were mostly contradictory. On one hand I was excited, on the other hand, I was scared; and sad, but happy at the same time (nah lo, bingung kan?)
It was the date of my flight to UK; and basically left Jakarta for 4 years or so (holidays don't count)

Back to the first sentence:

I said this because I finally got to write about things that are actually related to fashion; well at least, about my study of fashion. So, for the next 4 years, hopefully I'll be able to pour in my thoughts into this virtual world and enjoy them to myself - or if anybody wants to read them as well, I wouldn't mind at all :p

... kalau ada yang udah baca post gue sebelomnya, gue kira bencana manjatuhkan barang akan berenti di kejadian kamera. tapi.... siang ini....

gue lagi jalan menuju Gym sekolah untuk Sholat Jumat (ke tempat olahraga kok malah Sholat Jumat? ya begitulah sekolah gue) nah, karena laptop gamau ditinggal dimana-mana (dan males naik lagi ke loker untuk naro) akhirnya gue bawa ke lokasi Sholat beserta mukena gua. Lagi jalan, percakapan antar teman terjadi seperti biasa, tiba-tiba, kejadian yang sangat amat cepat terjadi... laptop gue JATOH!!!!!!!!!
gahhhhh, kaki langsung lemes, gue langsung duduk tadinya tanpa bersuara sampe akhirnya berhasil ngerengek kesel. Otak panik sekaligus takut, takut laptopnya kenapa-napa. Pas dikeluarin dari tempatnya, CD drivernya kebuka tiba-tiba, nah, panik kan, takut dalemnya ada yang patah ato apa sampe ga bisa nahan CD drivenya buat nutup, tp akhirnya setelah sedikit tenang, laptop berhasil untuk kembali ke bentuk semula. Alhamdulillah banget gak kenapa-napa. Sekali lagi, pasti ini adalah bentuk dari pemberitahuan ttg sesuatu oleh Tuhan (ceileeee), ya abis gada angin apa apa tiba-tiba jatoh aja laptopnya...

setelah dianalisa, makin kesini, barang yang gue rusakin makin mahal.

Pity and Fear merupakan lagu Death Cab for Cutie dari album mereka yang terbaru, sekaligus perasaan yg lagi gue rasakan sekarang (hadeh) mau tau kenapa? simak terus tulisan ini.

wah! udah lama banget ya ga nulis, udah sejak liburan lebaran coba. Liburan yang sangat menyenangkan karena gue akhirnya pergi ke LONDONNNN!!!! tapi perjalanan itu terlalu banyak ceritanya, jadi ga sekarang ya. harusnya sih sekarang lg 'sibuk'. hehehe.

kenapa perasaan gue dapat dilabel 'pity and fear', karena gue sekarang ngerasa kesian sama diri sendiri sekaligus takut. dalam waktu sebulan ini, gue udh mecahin kaca sebanyak 3 kali! aduh, kan kalo gitu takhayulnya... haduh gimana dong.. serem ni.

Kecelakaan #1:

Habit gue yang buruk ini dimulai pas gue masih liburan di Inggris. Kan nyewa apartement tuh, dengan barang-barang lengkap dan siap pakai. Lalu, di hari hari terakhir, gue lg mau isi air di gelas, pas gue angkat dari coffee table, gue pegang gelasnya dengan satu tangan. Nah, satu tangan itu gue ayun satu kali dan "brak!" nabrak ujung meja makan, dan lepaslah gelas itu dari genggaman... gak perlu dijelasin lanjutannya ya.

Kecelakaan #2:

Yang ini terjadi pas udah dirumah. Masalahnya tangan kiri gue lagi,sama kayak yg pertama. Jadi gue lg bukain pintu kamar nyokap utk ngambil duit ato apa gitu dr pembantu gue, trus duitnya gue taro di meja (pake tangan kiri) dan pas gue tarik balik tangan gue, nyenggol lah itu ternyata ada gelas di pinggir meja (SIAPA YANG NARO DISITU HAH?!) gelasnya sih ga jatoh sampe lante, cuma ngebentur ujung meja trus atasnya pecah. huaahhhh! itu gue mulai stress

Kecelakaan #3:

Ini baru terjadi siang ini, dan bikin gue sadar bahwa tangan gue emang butuh terapi. Jadi gue lagi buru2 mau ngambil tas sama kamera karena udh dijemput sama Julie, terus... karena kameranya cuma strap nya aja gue pegang, bergantung2 lah kamera itu sampe ujung lensanya kebentur lantai! Tadinya santai aja, sampe di mobil kamera mau gue periksa ternyataa deng deng... tutup lensanya masuk! klo orang mungkin kyk nyungsep gitu kali ya. jadi ada bagian dr tutupnya yang masuk ke filter sampe ga bisa dibuka pake tangan. Nah, dimobil gue masih stresssss banget, nyoba2 untuk buka tutup lensanya ga bisa bisa. hadehhh gila. nah terus ide jenius dateng ni. filternya aja ikutan dibuka, toh klo foto ga pake filternya juga masih bisa. namun... saat filternya diputer, terdengar bunyi kresek-kresek! tanpa mikir dua kali, gue stop ngebuka filternya karna takutnya ada apa2, dan malah tambah parah. setelah gue bawa kamera berat2, tanpa dipake sama sekali, akhirnya gue kembali ke rumah sorenya. lapor ke bokap, dan berhasil dibuka - - - pake obeng! abis ngerasa lega sebentar, gue nengok ke kameranya DENGGGGGGGGGG filternya pecaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!! berkeping keping gituuuu gaaaahhh gila udh takut banget gue. tp keberuntungan masih prihatin sama gue ternyata, alhamdulillah lensanya gak kenapa-napa. gue ga sanggup ngebayangin klo lensanya ikutan pecah, mana cuma punya satu. jahhhh!!

ya, untuk yang sudah membaca ini, mohon kasih saran (tolong kasihnya selain "hati-hati" karena ini udah gue dapet berpuluh2 kali juga ga mungkin ngerubah). dan untuk para peramal diluar sana, ada hubunganya ga ya sama mitos bakal sial terus???

Mungkin ini bukanlah hal yang layak bagi siswi-siswi berpendidikan cukup seperti kami, namun karena teralu dijejelin sama pelajaran yang melampaui batas, muncullah ide2 gila seperti ini:

GAHAHAHA gelay banget ga sih...

Ini hari terakhir gue di skolah term ini, dan besok, saatnya TERBAANGG JAUHHH. seneng deh, tapi kerjaan masih banyak bgt gila! Inilah daftar kerjaan gue yang belum selesai, dan SEHARUSNYA dikumpulin minggu besok (yang tidak dibantu sama sekali dengan kepergian gue besok, liburaann,hahaha):

- Math, kumpulin data buat eksperimen, nendang-nendangin bola ke target terus ngitungin tingkat keakuratannya.
- Theatre, laporan riset ttg teater Jepang, Noh. Yang harusnya selesai 1800 kata, tapi sekarang udah 950 kata... lumayan? KEBANYAKAN! 950 kata itu baru intro doang, dan itu blom selesaiii!!!
- Bahasa Indonesia, esai perbandingan sastra dunia, batesnya 1500 kata, dan gue udah 1000an sih ya, cuma isinya... BULL!!!
- English, isinya sangat amat gak penting dan gue gak ngerasa belajar APAPUN dari kelas ini. Udah 2 draft gue kumpulin masihhh ada yang di salah salahin lagi...NAMBAHIN KERJAAN AJA SIHHH!!!!

Yah itulah yang harus gue selesaikan HARI INI JUGA untuk dikumpulin secepatnya.. hahahahahahaahahahahahahaahahaahaahahaaaaahahahahahahahahahaha....

gue ketawa bukan karena ini lucu, cuma...

sebenernya judulnya sama sekali ga ada hubungannya sama cerita ini. Cuma itu lagu Bimbo yang ada hubungannya sama puasa (lho?) Untuk cerita-cerita aja nih, hari ini gue mengalami buka puasa yang cukup tidak biasa. Rencana impulsif dan spontan yang seringkali terjadi pada hari jumat baru terasa dampaknya.

jadi, gue dan 5 teman lainnya berencana buka puasa di restoran sunda bernama Sambara, di Cipete Raya. Kalau ada yang tau restoran ini, 2 jempol kan rasanya? Heee... lalu, karena semuua pada pulang dulu ke rumah masingmasing (kecuali gue dan icha, kita nebeng anna dan Supir Didin) jadi baru janjian ketemuan di Sambara jam 5 sore. Intinya, antisipasi kami semua ke lalulintas Jakarta Selatan menuju jam buka puasa sangat kurang! Berangkatnya ngaret dari rumah anna, keenakan leha leha, alhasil, danang dan ibe nelfon dari cipete dan ternyata Sambara sudah penuh nuh nuhhhhh... Akhirnya kita oper ke Abuba, puenuuhh jugaaa. Akhirnya setelah telfon-telfonan berkalikali, mikir mo makan dimana, akhirnya kita ke Black Canyon Coffee (tapi cuma gue, icha, anna aja), dan Danang sama Ibe kerumah Danang dan akhirnya disusul Kanya. haduhhhh gak enak banget gueee sama mereka... jadi bete gitu nadanya pas nelfon... gahhhh, maaf ya...

setelah sampai di Black Canyon Coffee, langsung ambil tempat dan pesen makanan dan minuman dari menu yang menggiurkan. Setelah makan dan sambil ngobrolngorbol, kami menyusun ini:

Mungkin tidak begitu jelas, tapi inilah yang kita susun menurut penderitaan kita menghadapi IB. Hehe, selamat membaca!

Ada yang sadar? Kalau nama blog ini (Manekin Tua) dihapus suku kata ke2 nya jadi Makin Tua??
Itu lah yang sedang terjadi sama gue. Hari Jumat lalu, seorang teman bernama Natalia menemukan seutas rambut di kepala gue yang tak lain tak bukan... berwarna PUTIHH!!!
Tidak! Oh no! Sedih sekali diriku. Walaupun (sejujurnya) itu bukan yang pertama kali. Apakah yang sedang terjadi? Apakah ini bentuk dari penuaan dini? Atau efek dari diasah dan diolahnya otak selama hampir dua tahun terakhir ini - menjalani IB? Tolong!

Jakarta Fashion Week 2008

Senangnya bisa punya kesempatan untuk dateng ke Jakarta Fashion Week 2008. Kerasa jadi orang penting siiihh ... ( haha, kata Stephanie). Acaranya di Pacific Place hari Jumat 22 Agustus kemarin sama hari ini (Sabtu 23 Agustus). Bahas yang kemaren dulu kali, ya? Hm, sebenernya sih show kemaren itu bikin gue kagum banget sama kekayaan Indonesia (yeahhh...) karena para designer nya - Ghea Panggabean, Tuty Cholid, Stephanus Hamy, Priyo Oktaviano, dan lain lain - dengan caranya masing masing bisa menonjolkan esensi dari bahan bahan tradisional Indonesia. Walaupun dengan design yang moderen, motif-motif toraja, batik, dan ikat ga kelewatan sama mereka. Tadinya gue mikir 'ah paling gayanya ibu-ibu semua..' tapi gak lho, gayanya wearable banget sama "non-ibuibu" hehe. Lalu... ada juga yang bikin gue kesel sekaligus lumayan bangga... perhatikan foto dibawah ini:

Ya yang paling jelas perbedaanya lah ya, dinilai dari sisi 'elegance' nya ya beda banget, yang satu di catwalk satunya lg maen tarik tambang (???) tapi kalo diliat jelas, gue yakin banget tehnik ikat mengikat kain yang gue pake sama si designer yang satu ini (Tuty Cholid kalo gak salah) SAMA PERSIS! jadi gue cuma make bahan batik, kirakira 2 meter panjangnya terus diiket di pinggang sedemikian rupa sampe jadi bentuk celana, nah, sama kan bentuknya??? - walaupun ga gitu kliatan di foto cuma gue yakin ini sama (loh kok ngotot?)

Banyak banget wajah-wajah terkemuka di dunia mode padahal, cuma karena faktor rame, jaim, dan harga diri masih terlalu tinggi, gue gak berani ngajak omong ato foto!!! ARGH! padahal ada Oscar Lawalata sama Barli Asmara (hadehhh) yang dateng untuk sekedar nonton doang. Hm, intinya, gue bangga banget sama designers Indonesia bisa menciptakan baju baju gila kayak gitu... Sedangkan kesan untuk show hari ini yang diisi sama designers Australia malah gak bagus. Bahan-bahannya biasa aja, terus ya polos-polos gitu lah, kurang KAYA! Walaupun ada yang orang Jepang namanya Akira siapaa gitu, emang buagus sih, cuma masih lebih suka punya tante Ghea :) - sok kenal deh... Makanyaa.... doain ya semua! Biar diumur 25 tahun gue bisa balik lagi ke sini dan ikut di event kayak gitu, atau bikin show di luar juga boleh :) sambil dititipin untuk bawa nama baik Indonesia. Hidup perancang mode Indonesia!!!

Miscommunication Wednesday continued ...

Di hari yang sama, kebodohan-kebodohan yang gak lazim terjadi lagi. Dan yang jadi tokoh utama adalah... gue !! Hehe.

Setelah akhirnya Pak Ratim kembali dateng ke gue (beserta mobilnya, tentunya) gue minta ke Bintaro Plaza untuk potong rambut di Rudy. Hehe, murah meriahhhh!

Oiya, intermezzoo... (kayak kata Danang)
Akhirnya gue berhasil ketemu orang salon yang baik, yang bisa ngobrol tanpa merendahkan gue dengan nanya-nanya soal perawatan rambut (yang seringkali bahasa salon gak gue ngerti). Biasanya nanya:
"udah lama gak potong ya!?"
"gak pernah creambath ya?"
"terakhir potong di mana sihh??"
"aduh kering ya rambutnya..."

daaaan makian tidak langsung lainnya, tapi kalo Mas Yono ini, dengan perut gendut, berpakaian serba hitam dan rambut Buceri, dia bisa ngobrol biasa, terus sambil ngasih-ngasih advice, jadi gue juga gak malu buat nanya nanya. Gak kayak tukang salon yang lain cuma protes doang tapi gak ngasih solusi...

Eh ya, BAALIK LAGI KE INTI CERITA...

Pas baru masuk salonnya, seperti biasa lapor dulu ke mba resepsionis/kasir/apalagi gatau

Gue: (senyum) Mba, mo gunting...
Mba R/K: Oh iya, dengan siapa?
Gue: (sok mikir biar dikira sering nyalon disitu) Hm, siapa aja deh mba...
Mba R/K: (muka bingung) He? Dengan siapa?
Gue: adanya siapa mba? siapa aja lah ga masalah...
Mba R/K: bukan, nama Mba siapa?
Gue: Ohhhhh!!!!

... dan akhirnya gue baru sadar pertanyaan 'dengan siapa?' itu bukan pertanyaan kayak 'sama siapa?', tapi pertanyaan itu kontesksnya sama kayak kalo kita nelfon terus ditanyain 'dengan siapa?' HAHAHA! haduh, malu sih, tapi untung si Mba nya juga ketawa... udah sendiri, tengsin lg... tp gapapa lah, yang penting ketemu si Mas Yono... cieeee Mas Yono...

Hi! It has been a while...

Kurang dimengerti kenapa juga ya hari ini otak orang-orang lagi pada jungkir balik semua - termasuk gue sih, hehe.

Jadi begini kejadiannya, waktu mau pulang sekolah, gue ke car call untuk manggil bapak supir gue yang bernama Pak Ratim. Dimulai dari percakapan bersama pak satpam.

Gue: Pak, tolong dong, Pak Ratim dari Qipra... Makasih
Pak Satpam: Hah? Rotim?
Gue: Ratim, Pak... Ratim...

Sempet kepikiran juga sih, huruf 'A' sama 'O' tuh bener-bener beda. Mulai dari artikulasinya aja udah beda kan? Tapi yaudah lah, kesalahan kecil...

Setelah percakapan bersama Pak Satpam, gue jalan agak mendekati jalanan biar pas mobil dateng langsung masuk (ya emang wajarnya begitu lah ya). Terus seperti biasa, gue suka imajinasi hal hal yang biasanya gak mungkin terjadi, ya ga lazim lah untuk terjadi.

"Kocak juga kali ya kalo orang abis manggil pake car call, bukan mobil DAN supirnya yang dateng... tapi SUPIRnya doang... you know... jalan kaki"

Tapi jujur aja, imajinasi ini tuh sebenernya settingnya di mall, jadi gue ngebayangin supir lari-lari dari parkiran basement ke lobby untuk ketemu sama si Boss.

Sekitar beberapa detik nunggu, gue nengok-nengok ke arah mobil dateng... tiba tiba...

Pak Ratim jalan kaki aja lho ke tempat gue!!!! Hahahaha! Mood gue lagi jelek banget pas itu jd cuma bisa ngeliatin, nunjuk, dengan ekspresi yang lg mikirin "aneh bgt sih"... Kalo lagi bagus, bisa ketawa ngakak sendiri kali ya... tapi... malu juga sih, haha.

Abis gue selesai dengan muka gue, kelihatan Pak Ratim ketawa-tawa, nunjuk gue, sambil bilang "Ooohh..." terus ngangguk-ngangguk kecil.

MEGAP-MEGAP?

Kejadiannya hari Rabu kemaren, waktu abis dari loker lantai 3 Building A menuju ke bawah mau main bola. Gue lagi sama Anna dan Icha. Waktu turun tangga, di depan kita ada Radiga sama Mia...lagi pacaran.. deng..deng... disinilah keanehan Icha dimulai.

Waktu liat Radiga sama Mia lagi jalan lagi rangkulan, dengan muka mupeng kita bertiga kita berlagak sok santai. Tiba-tiba Icha nyeletuk:

ICHA: "Dan, kita pacaran yuk" (oiya, perlu diingat Icha tingginya beda kira-kira 15 centi.)
DANYA: "Ayo, Cha..." (dengan nada bercanda tentunya)

Lalu mulailah kita ikutan rangkul-rangkulan
